Upcoming Events
- Advocacy Day at the Capitol in Jeff City will be Thursday, March 6, 10 am to 2 pm! Join our group to discuss legislation related to higher education and to share information about academic freedom with lawmakers. Contact Steve Karian if you are interested in attending.
- The General Faculty Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 18, at 3:30 pm. The meeting will focus on academic freedom and be co-planned by AAUP, followed by social at ITAP.
News:
- At our Chapter Meeting in February, we planned what topics to bring up at the April General Faculty Meeting, as well as questions to ask at our ongoing meetings with the Provost. Faculty were concerned about how the federal funding freeze and restrictions on DEI-related words that can be no longer be used in federal grants will affect tenure and promotion requirements as well as research and teaching more broadly; there were also concerns raised about ICE interacting with students, faculty, or staff on campus, and student and work visas.
- MU is party to a lawsuit through the APLU challenging the 15% cap on indirect costs on NIH grants.
