The evaluation of President Choi as MU Chancellor reinforces a message faculty have sought to convey for several years: there is a crisis in shared governance at the University of Missouri. Responses in the evaluation show how deeply faculty care about this institution in dedicating time to offer constructive feedback to the Chancellor and Board of Curators. We applaud the professionalism of the Faculty Council, which followed national best practices for survey design and deployment, both to ensure that responses were valid and to protect individual faculty from retaliation. The MU AAUP Chapter and MU Faculty Council have worked to alert administrators to their repeated violations of established practices and principles of shared governance as espoused by the AAU, the AAUP, and the UM System CRRs. The MU AAUP Chapter re-extends its invitation to the administration and the Board of Curators to engage in a constructive dialogue to improve conditions at the university for faculty, staff, and students for the ultimate benefit of the citizens of Missouri.
